Frequently Asked Questions

On this page you can view the full video walkthrough that provides step-by-step instructions for navigating and using ADHD TrEAT, as well as frequently asked questions regarding the TrEAT website and best practice for use.

Q: How do I send rating scales, forms or email templates to my patients?

A: To send rating scales, forms, or email templates, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Documents
  2. Prepare the Forms:
    • Download the selected documents and save them to your computer.
    • Open them using Adobe Reader (free version available here).
    • At the top of each form, enter a patient identifier and the email address where the completed form should be returned.
  3. Save and Send:
    • Save the PDF using the patient ID number or another unique identifier.
    • Send the forms via your preferred messaging system (e.g., email or EMR).
  4. Customize Communication:
    • Edit the Email Templates to provide clear instructions to your patient and any collateral informants on how to complete and return the forms.

Q: Why aren’t the rating scales scoring automatically?

A: The rating scales are designed to score automatically. If this feature is not working, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Use Adobe Reader:
    • Ensure both you and your patients are opening and completing the scales with Adobe Reader (free version) or another Adobe PDF program.
    • You can use the Email Templates under Scales, Forms & Templates to send instructions for downloading Adobe Reader.
  2. Use a computer:
    • Automatic scoring may not function properly on mobile devices.
    • For best results, download, open and complete the forms on a desktop or laptop computer.

Q: Why don’t the CADDRA forms score automatically?

A: While rating scales such as the SNAP-IV and ASRS are designed with automatic scoring features, CADDRA forms (e.g., the CADDRA Teacher Assessment Form) do not include this functionality. This is intentional, as these forms are designed to collect subjective information that is valuable in ADHD assessments. They are not intended to generate quantitative scores, whether automatically or manually, but rather to provide qualitative insights to support clinical decision-making.

Q: How do I interpret the scores?

A: To interpret the scores, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Scoring Guides:
  2. Review the Relevant Guide:
    • Each guide includes:
      • A brief overview of the scale.
      • A graphical display for quick reference, showing cut-off scores.
      • A detailed explanation of how scores are calculated and interpreted.

These resources will help you better understand the results and their clinical significance.

Q: Will the automatic scoring work if I send rating scales through my EMR?

A: It depends on your EMR system.

If your EMR allows PDF attachments:

  • Download the rating scale from the ADHD TrEAT (as described above),
  • Attach the PDF to an EMR message (similar to an email attachment), and send it to the patient.
  • The patient can download, complete, save and return it via the EMR or email.
  • This method typically preserves automatic scoring.

If your EMR does not support PDF attachments;

  • Automatic scoring may not function properly in other formats.
  • You may need to explore alternative methods or consult your EMR’s support team for guidance.

Testing different workflows can help ensure the rating scales remain functional for your patients.

Q: Where can I find guidance on how to assess and treat ADHD?

A:

  1. Navigate to Guidelines in Practice.
  2. Use the tabs across the top (e.g., Assessment, Medical Review, etc.) which represent each step in the ADHD assessment and treatment process.
  3. Within each step, you will find:
    • Helpful forms, checklists and clear explanations for each stage.
    • Links to relevant resources to guide clinical decision-making.
    • Educational videos in some sections for additional insights and support.

All steps align with the Canadian ADHD Practice Guidelines, which you can reference for additional information.

Q: How do I suggest changes or updates to ADHD TrEAT?
